This is a medley of three songs: my own original adaptation of Psalm 1 from the Bible along with two classics of modern social justice music in the Americas: "War" by Bob Marley (composed by Carlton Barret and Alan Cole) and an adaptation of “If I Had A Hammer" by Pete Seeger and Lee Hayes. The musical and poetic combination of these three works holds profound meaning for me, weaving together distinct traditions and honoring Marley and Seeger as two great songwriters that have made lasting impacts on culture and have used music to spread a vision of a liberated and united humanity. I hope that this recording does a small part to further this vision and mission.

Blessed are they who do not walk in the ways of the wicked
or take the course that the takers forge
or sit in the seat of the scornful

but their delight is in the law of JAH

And on this law, they meditate day and night
They are like trees planted by streams of water
which bringeth forth fruit in due season
and whose leaves do not wither
in all that they do
they bloom

Not so for those who oppress
They are like chaff that the wind blows away
They will not stand in the judgement,
nor in the assembly of us who are rooted in Love
